Held every spring since 2006, ÉCU – The European Independent Film Festival is and has been one of the most impactful events of the year for the independent film industry. We are an organization that is grounded in providing a platform for daring storytellers, who are seeking alternative avenues from commercial-hungry studio production, to share their creative works with not only the cinema-loving public but also the entire world. The annual festival is the largely anticipated, yearly celebration of our dedication.
Quality, innovation, and creativity, in both form and content, are the aspects of the submitted films that are judged in 14 categories for 25 awards. Seven of these categories are also open to non-European filmmakers (from the Americas, Africa, and Asia). Our jury members travel from around the globe and come from a multitude of backgrounds to share their desire to perpetuate the success of independent films that inspire and impress. Our festival not only attracts the public, but also agents, talent scouts, production company representatives, distributors, and established producers as well.
In addition to film screenings, ÉCU also provides a wide variety of events for all attendees throughout the duration of the weekend. Following each screening session, a Q&A is held for audience members and directors to discuss the works and processes in a public setting. Furthermore, industry professionals host workshops of varying subjects that are open to all festival attendees. ÉCU also passionately supports musicians, so live music can be heard throughout the entirety of the festival. And finally, there are exciting after parties each evening where attendees and filmmakers can unwind, share and expand ideas, and embrace the passion of film together.
